In the Name of the Father is an emotional story which is based on a tragic but authentic event. Gerry Conlin is unrightfully convicted for a detonating IRA bomb because he was forced to write a false confession under torture. The injustice affects his entire family when he old father is later convicted of aiding and dies in prison. Though the film focuses on the IRA conflict, it is just as much about the father-son relationship. The shared destiny ties Gerry Conlon and his father together in a way that has not been seen previously.
