The film series is constituted of five film screenings with companion lectures. All events are fuelled by snacks and followed by discussions.

With the documentary In the Name of Peace: John Hume in America, we will direct our eyes to another international key player in the Northern Irish peace process - the US.

Tonight, you can meet the director Maurice Fitzpatrick as he will guest AU for an introduction of the famous film, followed by a Q&A.

About the film:

Director: Maurice Fitzpatrick, 2017

The documentary mainly revolves around the politician John Hume, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1998 for the peace agreement in Northern Ireland. But furthermore, it is about diplomacy, international relations, and the exceptional triangular relationship between Ireland, the US, and Great Britain, who supported the peace negotiations. The director has had impressive access to the key political players who were involved in the peace process. This means that we meet both Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, and Nancy Soderbergh, besides a large number of journalists, diplomats, and officials – predominantly male – who paved the way for a peace agreement. The film gives John Hume credit for having thought out the underlying principles which the peace is founded on, and which are a timely reminder of what a moderate middle can achieve in violent conflicts.
